One of the most underrated fighters of all time IMO. He sort of got lost in the shuffle there in the pre and post-TUF UFC explosion. Franklin had a lot of diehard fans, but after losing twice to Anderson Silva, he was in no man's land for years.

Still, he's got victories over Okami, Lutter, Hamill, Wanderlei (twice) and Chuck ... and also was well on his way to finishing Dan Henderson if it weren't for tons of crazy fouls by Dan and a lack of five-round main events at the time.

If so inclined, I ran a two-part interview with Rich years ago on the Tapology Blog. One of the best experiences I had while running that long-deceased section of the site.

Rich Franklin was always a solid fighter, and I'm glad he's moved on to bigger and better things.

I wish him the best of luck at ONE. He put on a lot of fantastic fights. Here is a good article from theplayerstribune.com (Derek Jeter's website for pro athletes to write articles), I suggest it for even a casual Franklin fan.

Also skelliher I came across Tap's Blog about a month ago. Never knew it existed, I read some of the interviews. They were good. Mind if I ask why the blog stopped back in 2011?

@Griffy: I transitioned into full-time management of the FightCenter and its (continually expanding) team of contributors. The FightCenter is Tapology's identity, whereas the blog was always a supplement.

I enjoyed it and it could be resurrected in the future, but at this time there just isn't time to get those interviews I was getting while maintaining the FightCenter.

Rich Franklin is the man. My favorite fight of his was probably against Jason MacDonald, not because it was one of his tougher or more exciting fights, but because of the sheer relief he clearly felt from getting his first win after being brutalized by Anderson.

If you don't know much about Rich, do yourself a favor and pull up his record and start watching some fights. He had a consistently exciting career.

Yup def one of the most underrated fighters of all time in both skill and for how exciting he was.  Also should be noted that Franklin out side of his lose to machida, only lost to established trt/ped users.   He fought the best out there and a lot of the time he did so on short notice. He was always game and it is a real shame he was so old by the time these new rules came in to effect. I mean 5 round fights would have changed likely some of his loses to wins.  Also though I can not prove it, I believe he was clean his entire career, and would have benefited from today's drug testing. He had to fight some of the biggest abusers in the sport and was always game.

Also Franklin is arguably the toughest fighter of all time or at least one of them.

Can't think of many that might be tougher. He probably takes the cake in that category.

He's similar to Bisping in terms of fighting PED users, but he has much bigger signature wins than "The Count" and also held the belt.

If it weren't for Anderson Silva, Franklin's reign may have been a lot more memorable.  I remember watching his fight's against Tanner, Quarry, and Louiseau and thinking he was unbeatable.

I never thought he was unbeatable even before Anderson Silva.  Machida proved that.

Anyways, he seemed like a great guy outside the ring.

please I highly doubt you even new about Franklin lose to Machida prior to Anderosn beating Franklin, but you can pretend otherwise.  You do that quite often ive noticed.

Anyways, no franklin may not have looked unbeatable, but he clearly looked like a dominate force. At the time he completed destroy two top 10 middle weights and made them look out of his league.

Of course I did. Been watching MMA since 96.  How do I pretend? My mma knowledge is vast. Look at my wiki updates. They are mostly little known facts from the dark ages. I saw Rich on vhs in WEC before he was in the UFC. Wrong person to say this to.

Judging by how Franlin880088 reacted, he probably thought that i did not like Rich.  i think he was a great fighter.  i just never thought he was unstoppable.  I never thought Anderson Silva was either and i predicted over a year ahead of time that Weidmann would beat him.

It was amazing that Rich went from school teacher to champ within a few years.

I wouldn't doubt if Franklin lost his  belt to a PED user at the time..

You never know. Anderson was always known as a killer with his, strikes, though. It was his ground game that needed work in the beginning.
