TITO ORTIZ: I would have beat Jon Jones in my prime

What are your thoughts on Prime Ortiz vs Jones right now? How many seconds would you set the over/under at?

Prime Tito would have destroyed 12 year old Jon Jones.

In his prime, Tito's entire game was body lock, or double leg takedown, then push the guy into the fence, and sit in guard throwing elbows.  That was it.  If you could avoid that, you could beat Tito.

Jones would have stuffed his takedown and kicked him in the face.

I like Tito, but when it comes to champions. He was one of the worst when it comes to overall, all around skill. He has his wrestling and some elbows ... He was never THAT great. He was just facing fighters who werent good at the ground game which was Tito's world. If he fought Jones then Jones would be using some old school Tito and elbow him into a bloody pulp.

Guys, I didn't make this thread for everyone to start Tito-bashing. I love Tito Ortiz, he's an idiot but he's truly one of the greatest ever. He's very fun to watch and his GnP was awesome. Him submitting Ryan Bader is one of the greatest moments in MMA history and while he wouldn't be able to beat Jones in any way, he'd be able to beat a lot of guys.


It's not an insult by saying Tito would get destroyed by Bones, Couture would get destroyed as well and Chuck would probably lose (refraining from the word destroyed because frankly, prime Chuck's power and TDD could be quite the match for Jones).

He meant he would get elbowed so hard he would be forced to become a citizen of Bolivia.

That's some...pretty powerful elbows.

For Tito to come out and say that on the record for publication sake is just silly of him.  Tito's a big boy.  He's been around long enough to know how the MMA game and its media work.  He was just looking to get quoted and was willing to take the expected, obligitory scoldings on MMA discussion boards around the internet.

Why he'd want us to compare him to Jones is a question only he can know.  His offense consisted of him shooting for the double-leg TD, landing in the top position and raining down short, hard elbows in his ground and pound attack.

Jones would have stuffed his double-leg without much trouble, and on the feet, Tito would have been in Jones' world and a World of Hurt.  The first spinning back-elbow would have sent him down and with the long-limbed Jones on top of him, it would have been short work.  

Regardless of his prime, a champion only looks great when fighting people significantly worse than yourself.  When matched with someone as good as you are, you look as good as you are, no better, no worse.

Tito is dreaming his soul's Wet Dream.  He has that right.  But to share that with others is amusing.
