Brian Melancon is an American mixed martial artist currently competing in the welterweight division.

 

Before signing with Strikeforce, Melancon compiled a 5-1 record. Melancon made his Strikeforce debut against Isaac Vallie-Flagg at Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum, losing via split decision. Melancon next faced Felipe Portela at Strikeforce Challengers: Larkin vs. Rossborough, winning via unanimous decision.

 

Melancon defeated Seth Baczynski on July 6, 2013 at UFC 162. Melancon won via knockout at 4:59 of the very first round.


After a loss to Kelvin Gastelum in his next UFC appearance, Melancon was scheduled to face Robert Whittaker in December of 2013. Melancon withdrew from the bout due to kidney problems, then posted a message on his Facebook account announcing that he would be retiring from the sport due to kidney complications. According to Melancon, his kidney function had been reduced to 47% due to the rigors of cutting weight.
