Surprised Aldo is only 37. Every time he is talked about its along the names of GSP and Frankie Edgar, two older fighters

This will be my first time seeing him live (if I do watch this one)

What about if Poatan wins easy against Hill with no damage and headlines this card likes he wanted to against Ankalaev? Cuz that would be crazy.

@VicStrk
it would be crazy but it‘s super unrealistic. UFC 301 is three weeks after UFC 300 and contracts would need to be negotiated and signed in that time before the promotion and the preparation of this fight could even start. Ankalaev would have practically no preparation time if he wouldn‘t start now just hoping that Alex takes no damage at all which is unlikely as well against a heavy hitter like Hill. Also Pereira would need to do his insane weight cut two times in three weeks while also fighting two stylistic match ups that couldn‘t be much more different either, so I think a turnaround that quick wouldn‘t be in his favour either.

Severino vs. Lima would have made for a better opener for this ppv IMO.

This is a quote from Anthony Smith about his reason for accepting the Petrino fight and his mentality going into this fight:

" I'm not done. I am not the old wounded lion that's just pacing around waiting to get killed by the younger ones. That's not me. I refuse to be the new Neil Magne. That's 3 guys in a month and a half that fought, won and called me out. All unranked, all young guys. We are going to dead this right in it's track."
He goes on to say that he will prove that he is not a gatekeeper.

...Someone needs to lay down the harsh truth to this dude: You ABSOLUTELY are the wounded lion pacing around waiting to get killed by the younger lions! Get out of your fantasy land filled with rainbows and title aspirations!

I only say this because he is a good guy and I don't wanna see him getting killed in the cage over and over again before the scales fall from his eyes. It's time to fully work as a commentator for the UFC.

Unfortunately I very much agree with you, Smith would need to finish every opponent (Petrino and so on) to get back in the title discussion.

I really hope Costa and one of, if not both, of the Bonfim bros are on this card. I think that would round out a solid card PPV all things considered

That's exactly what will happen as long as he wins and a Doctor clears him. Poatan had it written into his contract for taking the 300 fight that if he wins and is cleared, he's on the card for 301.

That's how badly he wants to defend his title in Brazil.

With all due respect to Alex, Magomed is no Hill. Dont see Alex pulling a dub over the Dagestani considering Ankalaev isnt gonna even try to leave it into the judges. Alex gets put out cold sadly

Yeah you're probably right. Poatan probably loses to both Hill and Ankalaev just like Paul Craig did.

Oh wait.

Magomed is the first person Alex will fight with an offensive wresling game tho, there is a big difference between Magomed wresling then Izzy, Jan, Jamahal and Jiri wresling, I’ll be very impressed if he can stop Magomed wresling,

Alex shouldn’t pull an 10 day Volk against Magomed and be a hero, be smart and be prepared to fight the hard stylistic matchup

Say what you want, but I think this fight is more of Pantoja's decision than UFC's. He has beaten everyone from top 5 twice already(expect Albazi). Guy just wants some fresh meat. I don't like this match-up either, but let's see.

Really happy to see Aldo back in business here.
