I don’t think Nunes’ striking is overrated myself.
You can’t really use the fight with GDR as an example, as GDR is a world class Kickboxer.
However, it does seem like she got herself into some compromising situations on the ground, but GDR wasn’t able to capitalize because her ground game isn’t great. But that’s also why Amanda took it to the ground like she did. Why risk getting finished on the feet when you can just takedown and out-grapple your opponent, you know?
Then again, that fight was on my birthday and I was pretty drunk. I’m about to workout so maybe I’ll put it on and rewatch it just to be sure I’m not losing my mind.

i think nunes is over rated. dana cut cyborg rather than give her the rematch with nunes. cyborg made a serious tactical mistake in the fight but i would take cyborg in the rematch all day long. no way nunes beats her the second time around. her ego will be her downfall, when you start calling yourself the goat you arent and are setting yourself up for a hard fall.

I don't think Nunes is overrated but I can see why people do. She'd have a much tougher time of things if people stopped fighting her the way she wants them to fight her. Cyborg standing at the end of her range, flat footed, spamming loopy haymakers against a powerpuncher with excellent heavy straight punches was one of the most ******** title fight strategies or lack thereof I have ever seen. She literally handed Nunes that win on a silver platter. She should have fought conservatively and focused on accuracy and volume, Nunes has cardio issues and I doubt she outpoints and/or survives Cyborg over 4.

Edit: She's better than Rousey is, was, or ever will be.
Double edit: GDR would 100% flatline her in a striking-only contest.

people who feel passionately about nunes weird me out because one day they're talking about how she's useless and has no marketability (whatever this means) but then the next day they're speaking matter of factly about how shes THE GOAT

I think she is the GOAT but it's a pretty shallow pool. I mean there's really only Rousey and Cyborg in contention and she's beaten them both badly and has a better record. Not much of a conversation to be had there.

i thought she lost the rematch to shevchenko / think shevchenkos way the **** better at just about everything but that fight was ****** & boring so i dont really care to rewatch it as a trilogy

Yeah I think Schev did enough but they're both responsible for that utter discarded week-old used Tampon of a WMMA title fight. I don't want to see that **** a third time. Nunes should shoulder most of the blame because she outweighed and outsized the **** out of Val and still fought like she was afraid of her hands. Schevchenko is a nasty little ***** and very high tech, but seriously she couldn't punch a hole through a wet tortilla.

yea im not gonna claim it was even a decent fight. it was one notch above israel vs yoel in terms of how bad it was.

i just thought shevchenko won / is the better fighter overall

Schev is definitely better. If she was bigger she'd merk Nunes comfortably. As it stands I don't see anyone beating her for a long ass time at 125. I don't think she could cut any more and live to talk about it but Zhang moving up to fight her would be a barnburner. She could carry 10lbs fine IMO.

Yeah well if Weili is clean I'm Jim Morrison. She basically never dropped power and or cardio for the full five against JJ who is a cardio machine and high output. Reminds me of the version of Cyborg who ****trained Gina Carano.

She'll pop, just a question of when.
