Townsend Saunders Wiki

A former NCAA division I all-american, U.S. national freestyle champion and Olympic freestyle silver medalist, Townsend Saunders is among the most decorated amateur wrestlers to have competed in mixed martial arts.  Debuting in 1998 at UFC 16 against future UFC welterweight champion Pat Miletich, Saunders lost a very close split decision in spite of Miletich's superior experience(20-1-1) and size.  Saunders, fighting at more than 20 pounds above his natural weight, went on to lose another close decision to Mickey Burnett at UFC 18 before retiring from the sport.
