Paul Varelans is a retired professional MMA fighter known for his losses in the early years of the UFC to the likes of Tank Abbott, Marco Ruas, Dan Severn, and Kimo Leopoldo. at 6'8" and weighing as high as 340 pounds, Varelans is among the largest men to ever compete in the Octagon. Varelans trained in what he referred to as "trap fighting", the only UFC fighter to practice this martial art. Although extremely large and powerful, Varelans had sub-par cardiovascular conditioning. He retired in 1998 with a 9-9 record.
