With a background in Greco-Roman wrestling - Nagata would grow up competing in many bouts and tournaments, the pinnacle of his success would be achieving a silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics in the 63-69kg Greco-Roman category. 


Upon building a highly esteemed career and base in wrestling he would then make the splash into MMA, debuting successfully against Lithuanian trailblazer R.Morkevičius. He is also the brother of professional wrestler Yuji Nagata, and is the founder and manger of his own gym 'Wrestle-Win', located in Chofu, Japan.
