Darrell Montague began his mma career in 2008, he would win his first 3 fights before losing to Robbie Peralta. He would win his next two fights before fighting for the title for Gladiator Challenge which he would win. He would win another title for Tachi Palace Fights when he beat Ulysses Gomez by Unanimous Decision. He would then lose the belt to Ian McCall.

Montague would win another 4 fights before getting the call up to the UFC where he would lose by TKO in his debut to John Dodson.
