Clarke made his UFC debut at UFC 140 against fellow UFC newcomer John Cholish. Clarke lost the fight via TKO (punches) at 4:36 in the 2nd round; this was also his first lost.

Clarke faced Anton Kuivanen on 21 July, 2012 at UFC 149. He lost the fight via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

However in Round 2 Clarke came out strong and was able to get Laquinta on the ground and up against the fence. There he sank in a D'arce choke, which Laquinta was slow to defend against.
