I disagree with this take and the reason is simple. MMA is not a fight, it's a sport. We coloquially call it a fight and intimate that it is a "real fight" when doing so but there are a ****ton of things you aren't allowed to do.

If we go by the premise that there are generally three categories of hurt you can put on an opponent that is either caused by stabbing motions, squeezing or twisting motions, then the squeezing arts has way less tools barred to them. A wrestler can essentially use whatever they want from within their discipline in an MMA fight. A striker is much more curtailed. You can't attack the eyes the throat the back of the head or the spine, the groin and so on. Grapplers are curtaled a bit as well when it comes to twisting, you can't snap finger bones for example but they are less constrained from their full arsenal of potential moves than a stabber.

If we go by Rogan's idea that a fight is a fight, then to make it fair to someone that spent their life learning the stabbing arts, meaning whatever assortment of strikes with fists fingers elbows knees feet or any other stabbing motion with the human body you can do, they should also be allowed to utilize their disciplines fully.

So I'm ok with no standups and restarting on the ground when a new round starts if the striker can freely attack the back of the head the spine the groin or try to gouge out the eyes.

But that wouldn't be reasonable to do, because it's a sport that tries to have some level of humane rules.

Now if someone wants to discuss how much the scoring criteria leans toward striking that's another debate because it's kinda insane how much it does so. The thing there is the judges still don't rigourusly go by damage trumping all else on a consistent basis so if they regularly ignore the ruleset as is, what would happen if went back to pre-2017 rules?

Anybody think Barboza's weight cut might be a big factor? I still think Barboza could look refreshed at LW in about a year. 

I'd watch Barboza vs. Hooker again, RDA, Green, Pimblett, Frevola, Dawson, Moises, Bahamondes down the line.

Naw man. The guy Yanez just beat has 13 of 14 ko wins. Yanez beat Randy Costa who has 7 out 7 wins by round 1 ko + kod Knight on bareknuckle in the first. He fought Miles Johns and didn't get knocked out

In my fighter rankings I have Abus 34 and Nickal 35. I actually think that's a good matchup. Time to see Nickal get pressured harder

Yanez always starts a little slow but it’s because he’s assessing the timing as he’s primary a counter striking boxer. He was getting pieced up by Costa because he couldn’t counter the fast jabs & straights, so he just started throwing at the same time (as per DC’s recommendations).

Aside from the obvious reasons, Salvador’s attack style leaves him too open/undefended and was main the reason behind my confidence in Yanez defeating him
